ebeam: Promoting Sustainability with Innovation

ebeam: Promoting Sustainability with Innovation

Innovation and sustainability are two of the most important aspects of modern business. In the past, they have rarely been implemented simultaneously, but things are changing. With a growing feeling of corporate responsibility and a rousing call from consumers for broader adoption of greener policies and technologies, today’s businesses need to integrate both into the heart of their operations.

A great example of a business embracing sustainability, is global brewing company Carlsberg Group. In June, it announced a commitment to eliminate carbon emissions across its business, whilst halving water usage in each of the company’s breweries by 2030. This is a particularly ambitious target and will no doubt see Carlsberg Group leading the way for food and beverage companies to introduce greater sustainability into their corporate agendas. With significant public attention focused on environmental issues, particularly in the wake of the recent Paris Climate Agreement and rising prominence of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals in the global community, eco-friendly business has never been more important.

Like our partners, here at ebeam Technologies, we’re no strangers to innovation or sustainability and we’re keen to ensure that all our solutions are developed with these concepts firmly in mind. We’re currently working hand-in-hand with some of the most forward thinking partners across multiple industries to ensure a greener future for packaging manufacturing around the world.

One such partner is the world renowned beverage container producer, Tetra Pak. Just a few months ago, the company made history, being the first to announce the availability of a full range of ebeam-based filling machines for food safe packaging applications. Not only are we proud to partner with a company that continually innovates and challenges industry norms, we’re delighted to be the ones to enable Tetra Pak to realise more sustainable operations. With ebeam technology, the company’s package sterilisation process can now be completed with 33 percent less electricity. Coupled with substantial reductions in waste water products, Tetra Pak and its partners can achieve cuts to their operational costs of up to 20 percent. In addition, the use of ebeam sterilization means that no containers are wasted, should the production line stop at any time. The total reduction in energy requirements and wastage means tangible financial gains for businesses, whilst considerably lowering emissions.

Improvements in processing and manufacturing operations of this scale make a lot of sense and more than justify the business case for sustainability, but it goes much further than that. In the modern marketplace, consumers are increasingly demanding greener technologies from manufacturers. In fact, in December 2016, international internet-based market research firm YouGov, found that more than half of consumers in the UK, France and Germany wanted to see evidence of companies reducing their environmental footprint and that around a quarter of shoppers were already making purchasing decisions based upon sustainability ratings. As a result of public pressure, we’re seeing the movement spread rapidly across the globe and the impact is incredibly positive.

At ebeam, we pride ourselves on the quality of our products and how we, along with our partners, work tirelessly to translate our vision and values into a brighter future for all. By applying our expertise and creative potential to delivering innovative, green technologies to market, we know we can continue to develop exciting solutions that will improve our partners’ businesses, whilst promoting greater sustainability in the world around us.
